St Patrick's Day Soda Bread Recipe Cards For Kids

Ingredients
  • 500g plain flour
  • 2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 400ml whole milk
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 2 tsp honey
Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.
  2. Mix together the milk and lemon juice in a small mixing bowl and wait 10 minutes until it becomes buttermilk.
  3. Meanwhile, mix together the flour, salt and bicarb in the large mixing bowl.
  4. Add the honey.
  5. Pour the buttermilk into the flour mixture and stir until it forms a sticky dough.
  6. Tip the dough onto a floured baking tray and using well-floured hands, shape it into a ball.
  7. Use the sharp knife to cut a deep cross over the top of the bread. (This will stop it from splitting in the oven.)
  8. Put in the oven and bake for 30 - 40 mins. (You can tap the top of the bread – if it sounds hollow, it’s ready!)
  9. Serve warm with butter.
